My name is Dean Basson.
I am 32 years old. On 2 July 2023 I had a horrific accident with my Off Road Motorbike.
I sustained multiple cervical spine fractures and have been clinically diagnosed as a C5-complete quadriplegic.
I was in ICU for 53 days, from 2 July until 23 August when I was transferred to Aurora Rehabilitation Hospital in Port Elizabeth.
I was on a Ventilator until 12 August. due to a collapsed lung.
Due to the severity of the injury, none of the muscles in my lungs and stomach, that are required for independent breathing, are functioning. The only muscles I have left to assist with breathing, are some in my diaphragm.
The nerves that communicate with my heart were also damaged and I had to receive a temporary pacemaker. Thankfully, the muscles communicating with my heart have strengthened again and after 12 days on the pacemaker, it was removed on 3 August 2023.
The road ahead will be very long and there are many obstacles that will have to be overcome.
From this website you can sign up to receive periodic updates on my condition, contribute financially to my recovery, which will be very costly and just send me messages, share photos and later, once I am able, have live chats!
At this stage, though, I am taking it day by day.
It is truly a miracle that I survived.
I can only thank the Lord, giver of life and Creator of Heaven and Earth, for saving my life - my earthly and Eternal Life.
A YouTube Channel YouTube Channel was just started where there will be videos of my rehab/recovery process. You can also subscribe to this website subscribe to this website to receive periodic newsletters with updates.
